The
Meme
You are now on a quest to be the very best trainer in all the land! In your own, special way. I mean, everyone has their own thing they seek in the Pokemon world, right? Some want to gather badges. Other people participate in contests! Still others decide to devote their life to research and becoming a Pokemon Professor.
1. You're in a Pokemon battle! Is it a friendly battle? Is it a heated match between destined rivals? Or are you just mugging some preschoolers for their lunch money?
2. Either 1 went pretty well and you're just chillaxing, or 1 went pretty poorly and you're recuperating and healing up, or maybe you have no idea what I'm talking about when I say 1 because you didn't just fight a Pokemon battle. Regardless of the reasons, you are now at a Pokemon Center.
3. You are traveling on some route or another and enjoying the scenic vistas and the epic scenery of wherever you are. Or maybe you're getting ready to camp out for a while? Well. You're just stopping and smelling the metaphorical roses.
4. You are lost. So this is kind of like 3 except it's less enjoying the ride and more going oh crap what is this this is a cave I wasn't supposed to go into a cave was I? I can't use surf how am I supposed to get through this lake crap.
5. You're participating in a contest! You're getting ready to, you're appealing, you're sabotaging your competition, whatever it takes to get that ribbon.
6. You are somehow involved with a Pokemon Daycare. Maybe your Pokemon is expecting? Maybe you've got this...this egg you gotta haul about until it hatches. Or maybe you don't have enough cash to get your beloved Rattata back so now you're mugging preschoolers for their lunch money. It's a very dark and dire business you're involved with.

It's the one about the Pokemon that can enter dreams. Have you heard of it?
no subject
Whoa, simmer down there!
[Now addressing the other man, rather than the Pokemon.]
Sorry, they can get curious too!
Ah, well there's certain Pokemon that feed off dreams, and while I was traveling in Sinnoh I heard a few of the locals talk about one that supposedly makes nightmares! But the Pokemon that enters dreams themselves...
Now that's one of the more mysterious legends! Because it appears in dreams, there's not a lot of solid info, so there's a lot of folks who aren't sure if it's actually real! But there's just enough similarities in the stories to make it a well-known myth around here!
Some say it glows brightly, while others think it surrounds itself in fire! But the most interesting thing ya might hear from people who claim they've seen it...
Is that it watches them! They turn paranoid, starting thinking its eye is everywhere, watching! That it's always watching them!
Ha ha! Pretty crazy, right?
no subject
Friendly Pokemon you have here. [And then a few nods as he jots some things down.]
So I've heard. But paranoid, huh? That's a bit of a new one. I wonder what's the point...I mean, if it doesn't feed on the dreams, why does it do that? Just for fun?
no subject
You can't blame them for being intrigued! They usually stay only in certain areas, and aren't around people very often!
Hah, maybe! Sometimes fun's the only reason ya need!
But it's probably more than that. After all, you can learn a lot about someone by what ya find in their dreams!
no subject
[He smirks- somehow, he finds that fact amusing as well.]
Fun? Interesting. But there may be a truth to learning from dreams...though woe be to the Pokemon if the person in question doesn't remember theirs. Or does it not matter, I wonder?
no subject
[It's becoming clear this man seems to be quite the expert on the particular species of Pokemon he travels with.]
Isn't it interesting how fast dreams can vanish from the human consciousness? No wonder anyone hardly knows anything about this dreamscaping Pokemon! But since it's right there in the mind itself, with a different kind than humans have...
I'd say it has a less flawed memory!
no subject
And perhaps. To be able to recall all that information for later use...I'd say that it has to have an intelligence equal to the intelligence of human beings, or possibly greater.
no subject
[The one-eyed gentleman lets out a slight chuckle.]
Oh, it's gotta be greater, no question! For what it has the chance to learn, in all those minds, dreams and memories?
It must have knowledge beyond comprehension!
no subject
[He adjusts his glasses with a hand.]
It must, it must...but then what would it do with all that knowledge? Human beings, we build cities and invent things, and yet, if this Pokemon really does exist, it doesn't seem to be really doing much of anything with the immense knowledge it's getting.
no subject
[He grins wider, gesturing in a way to emphasize the grand scale he's imagining.]
Ya can't REALLY say that now, can you? We know next to nothing about it, let alone what it could be planning! Knowledge is power, yaknow, so if it does have something it's working on, having what's gotta be inconceivable amounts of both...
I'd wager it's nothing less than world-changing!
no subject
[Preposterous, really.]
...So, it's your belief that this Pokemon, if it exists, is just going to take over the world one day? Huh. Never though I'd imagine the world being run by a Pokemon...but then again, it would have to compete with all the other legendaries hanging around. If those really do exist as well.
no subject
[He laughs again, finding Keats' assumption genuinely humorous, as well as what he apparently believes.]
Take over the world? I never said that! What would be the point? You can't tell me you really think HUMANS rule this world!
Who reigns over the elements, the land, the sky, and the sea? Time and space? Life and death!? Who created us, and brought this whole universe into being?!
Of course they exist! Without them, neither would we! Ahahahhaha!
no subject
[Keats actually seems just as amused, grinning widely as he pushes up his glasses - they shine a bright eerie white in the light.]
Ah, but that depends on what you count as "ruling". Sure, these Pokemon may be behind the major elements, but I don't see any Pokemon declaring themselves kings or presidents. I don't see any Pokemon writing down laws for us to follow, or setting up a system of government to govern the people.
It's one thing to have power, it's another to actually use it to directly control the populace and make it clear that you're the one they need to follow.
no subject
I guess that's for them to decide!
[The four Unown that had been surrounding Keats now return to Bill, hovering around him. He glances at them for a moment while they make a small chime, before turning back to the reporter.]
I know, aren't we lucky? How benevolent of them! Ha ha!
But I'd guess they haven't had a reason! You said yourself, mankind has a productive society! For now it seems like they're happy enough with us, still...
I wouldn't doubt if they needed to, they'd remind us where we came from! So we remember who gave us everything from the stars above to our very own souls!
Though it makes ya wonder...
What WOULD a world without humans be like?
no subject
[He says, in a rather deadpan tone.]
Rather bleak, I suppose. I mean, great for the Pokemon, not so great for the humans. I bet Pokemon would just run wild with no one to train them...and the cities would fall into ruin without people to live in them...I suppose nature would just take over when all is said and done.
[A pause, before he looks up, tapping his scruffy chin with the pen.]
You really think highly of Pokemon, don't you, Mr...?
no subject
Yaknow, people don't give Pokemon enough credit! They're not unintelligent creatures! They've helped human beings build their cities, develop technology, practically pave the way for their entire civilization! Not to mention...
There's some Pokemon that used to be human.
So what if it wasn't so much a world without humans, as a world without human bodies? What would change about society, if we no longer considered ourselves a separate species from the ones who made it with us?
Boy, is that fascinating to imagine...
Ha ha, I suppose I do...
Cipher! Bill Cipher. That's with an "I", not a "Y", if you're taking note! People make that mistake a lot!
no subject
[He laughs. It's an interesting mental image.] I guess that would mean no more capturing and training, first of all, since we would be on the same level...but if we would keep our human intelligence or lose it over time is a question that really can't be answered.
And got it. Bill...Cipher? Interesting name. [He jots it down.] The name's Keats, by the way. It's a pleasure to meet you, Bill.
