The Body Heat Meme


Post with your character! They're now stuck in a very cold place of your choice. It can be anything, such as a freezing chamber, a cavern or a small cabin in the midst of a blizzard. The choice is up to you.
Comment around! Now your character has some company in this bone-chilling environment. The two of them share two things in common: clothes completely unfitting for this weather (be they summer clothes or even lingerie) and a blanket.
A blanket? Yes, just one warm blanket and no other ways to escape the cold. The two of them will have to share it in order to stay alive in this weather. Don't worry, you're sure to find a common language in this terrible situation!
So, uh, have fun, I suppose. Try to not freeze to death!
Protip: friction and body heat are both excellent ways to fend off cold.

[Hiccup catches it out of reflex, blinking because his own blanket is sitting right beside him.]

Arcee...I can't really....I mean thank you but I can't- ...take your blanket from you in this weather. On Berk it snowed constantly...

To be honest I'd feel better letting YOU have both blankets.

[Arcee waves him off in a lazy fashion, arms crossed. She doesn't even look at him for whatever reason she has.]

Trust me, I'd sleep a lot better knowing you have both of them.

[Magical Berk skin or not. ...Whatever that is.]

Just do this for me, okay?

Well......alright.

[And a VERY reluctant 'alright' at that. He'd really rather you keep your blanket Arcee, it's dang cold out here.]

It's going to probably get colder than this though, you know.

[Hiccup, no, don't do that. She'll take it as a challenge.]

I can handle it.

[Clearly. I mean, look how she totally doesn't shiver as she sits there. That once 'cool' sitting-there-with-my-arms-crossed pose slowly turns into a desperate huddle for warmth.

Yup, she's got this under control.]

[Hiccup raises a brow at that. While he's not about to try to argue a point with Arcee, she's not fooling him for a second. So at that he stands with both blankets in hand, stepping over to where she is before holding out the second blanket a bit.]

Well- at least share one of these with me?

[He'll offer, and if you say no he won't ask anymore Arcee, he promises.]

...

[She gives a defeated sigh, looking at both him and that blanket with a disgruntled, if not a little pitiful, look. Okay, you win this time, Hiccup.]

Fine... as long as we're sharing.

[At least this way they both get what they want.]

[He gives a small nod before carefully sitting down next to her, draping the blanket over her shoulders before scooting a bit closer to let the edge fall over him as well. Ah, personal space. Not much you can do though, unless you want to be a popsicle.]

How's that...?

[She certainly doesn't want to be a popsicle. In fact, she had a near-death experience in extreme cold weather before, it's not like she wants a repeat of that.

...Comparing that event to this really burns Arcee up, though. That time, the weather was beyond anything a human could handle. This...again, should be nothing. Why does she have to be human? The Digital World would be doing itself a favor if it kept her Cybertronian. It's...

Okay, time to relax. No need to have a tantrum in front of the kid.]

It's fine.

[She doesn't mean to be a grump, Hiccup, really. Especially not around him, of all people.

...at least she feels warmer now.]

[He can tell she's not in the best of moods, so for now he remains silent, giving her a small nod. He drapes the other blanket over their legs, making a face at his prosthetic before covering it.

One thing he HATED about his missing leg- other than the...obvious many things to hate- was the fact that cold weather really made it sore. Right now the pain was just starting to settle in, not enough to cause him too much discomfort. It was just annoying, but it wasn't like he could do anything about it.]

[Even if he's silent, his expression says enough as it is. She takes a quick glance at his leg before it gets covered, questioning whether it would be a good thing to bring up right now. Missing limbs are not something to take lightly.

It's one of the many reasons why she tried not to bring too much attention to it.]

You know, whoever repaired your leg did a pretty nice job.

[Hiccup glances up at her out of the corner of his eye, smiling a bit.]

Yeah....my friend Gobber made it for me. ..He designed it so I would be able to ride Toothless and control the direction of his prosthetic tail-fin that I made. ...it's....it's ingenious.

He's the one who taught me everything I know.

That's what I thought.

[She nods to herself.]

It looked like a lot of care went into crafting it, not just something made because it had to be made. You don't see much of that these days...

[A pause. Although she can gather a friend making a prosthetic limb, the rest of that was completely lost to her.]

You do know you have to explain this Toothless thing to me now, right?

[Oh, right. He keeps forgetting the people he's told about dragons.]

Well uhm....first of all do you uh...

...are you familiar with dragons, by any chance?

[Anyone can tell by her face that this was not going to be an easy explanation.]

Can't say that I am.

[And that pretty much cements it.]

[Well. How should he put this..]

Well....you know there are dragon digimon, right? ...Normal dragons are similar, but...bigger, mostly. Most have wings, some breathe fire-

[What he wouldn't GIVE to have the dragon manual with him right now.]

But uh...they're like.....lizards. Sorta. ....just bigger.

Okay, following you so far. I think...

[Hiccup, you best not be playing with these things or so help her. Breathing fire? You could lose a--oh]

[Well at least now his sudden loss-of-limb makes sense.]

Toothless is a dragon. ...He's my best friend too, actually. He saved my life, when I lost this.

[He points down at his leg.]

He helps me, and I help him. And he...he helped me realize I had a place where I lived back home. That I was worth something, you know?

[Ooohhh okay, Arcee can understand this. Interspecies partnerships are something she can definitely get behind. ...If the Digimon thing wasn't a big enough hint.]

Yeah, I think I know. Sounds pretty great, if you ask me. Wish I could meet him.

He is. ...I don't feel too comfortable leaving him behind, but I know he can take care of himself. He'll help watch over things while I'm gone.

[And hopefully he's not worrying too much.

After a pause, he glances up at Arcee.]

What was it like for you, back home?

Arcee's taken off guard by Hiccup's question, finding herself speechless at first. By the way her eyes sort of dart back and forth, it almost looks like she's trying to figure out how to even answer that.

Finally she looks away and decides just to answer that in the simplest way she knows how.]

I haven't had a home in a long time.

[It's Hiccup's turn to be speechless. He winces and slowly looks away, biting his lip. After a long, strained pause he murmurs.]

I....I'm sorry.

[Like he has anything to apologize for, and like that HELPS at all. ...but he doesn't know what else to say.]

[There's a long sigh. As much as she'd love to go on an angry rant right now, it's not like it's Hiccup's fault. Asking about people's pasts is just a completely normal thing to do no matter who or what you are, human or...whatever.]

It's fine.

[~~Not really.~~]

You didn't know.

[Of course, but that doesn't make him feel any better about the situation. Not having a home....has to be hard. He felt out of place in his own home for years, but at least he had one to call his own.]

Well...uhm...

[He sits there for a moment, mentally wrestling to figure out a way to salvage the conversation.]

....are you.........f-feeling a bit warmer?

[Nope, not smooth. Not at all.]

[It gets even better when you have to stay on a completely different planet home to a race only a fraction of your size and you're forced to hide the whole time.

...Not that she's going to share that anytime soon.

Instead, she appreciates the topic change and even manages a smile. Thank you for not digging any further into it, Hiccup. If anything, she has a lot more respect for him now.]

You know what? I think I am.

...Thanks.

[It's no problem, really. He knows what it feels like, to not really want to talk about your past. It...hurt sometimes, and he knew talking about his own was the last thing he wanted to do, despite how good things turned out for him in the end- ..relatively speaking.

He smiles back at her slightly.]

[Then he chuckles a bit.]

I'm...I'm glad Gomamon is asleep. ....you don't want to know what he would have probably started talking about.
