You can keep it for now.
And what you need to be focusing on is getting better. Not all these speculations that keep stressing you out.
[He kneels down by the bed.]
Come on, I'll give you another ride so you don't have to walk on it at all.
no subject
I'll try, Rin-chan. If nothing else, maybe this just means I'll get to stay home from school or something, huh?
[It's an attempt to lighten the mood as he carefully climbs onto Rin's back, wrapping his arms around his shoulders.]
no subject
[He exaggerates his voice to make it sound more aghast than he really feels, his own attempt to play along with Nagisa's game, as he adjusts Nagisa on his back and moves to his feet. The train station isn't quite as far a walk as the beach had been and it won't be half as hot. But it's still not going to be easy. He's mostly doing it because Nagisa loves being pampered and the attention should distract him some from his more frenzied thoughts.
Rin heads carefully down the stairs and toward the front door.]
We can call your parents from there, if we need to.
[He'd rather not leave a note and worry them. He knows how his own mother would react to something like that.]
no subject
Kinda hope I won't have to...mom's been on my case enough as it is already.
[She'd always been fussy over him when he was sick, but this was at a whole new level. And while Nagisa never tired of the attention, he didn't like her insisting that he stay put constantly. At least...not before his foot got so bad that he had no choice but to stay still.]
no subject
Yeah, moms can be like that. They think it's their job to worry themselves to death. Even Lori got like that once in a while.
[Wow, Rin can't remember the last time he really thought about his home-stay parents. He'd been such a wreck the last time he saw them, not that he ever let them know. They'd probably appreciate a call. Or at least a letter.]
no subject
[He giggles in Rin's ear in spite of himself. It's hard to think about Rin being told what to do by an adult, but at the same time he can't help but smile at the thought.]
Did you get in trouble a lot?
no subject
[Though that's not to say that he didn't spend a large chunk of him time, holed up in his room hating himself out of view. But Rin has always been good at keeping up appearances. He maintained his grades and he kept swimming because his mother had paid too much money for him to just throw it back in her face. But he also knows he was practically a ghost for the last year or so there. The family dog saw him more than anyone else. He had still confided in her at least.]
no subject
[He grins broadly, tightening his grip lightly around Rin's neck. His tone betrays that he's teasing him, just to see what sorts of reactions he'll get for it. That's one thing that always cheers Nagisa up, at least.]
no subject
[Rin smiles at the increased grip and the bouncier response, even as he puts on his fake pout. He has to play along, of course.]
no subject
[He knew Rin had a good reason to spend all those years in Australia, but he was still glad that he came back home all the same. If he hadn't, they all might not have been able to swim together again.]
no subject
[He doesn't even have to pretend about that.]
It's always been different with you guys. Even when we're not on the same team.
no subject
[Nagisa giggles, pressing the side of his cheek against Rin's as he looks ahead to see if he can spot the station when they come up onto it.]
no subject
Ah, lay off it.
See anything yet?
no subject
Uuhm...yeah! We're almost there. Then you won't have to carry me anymore...unless I can convince you to let me sit in your lap on the way there.
no subject
[Rin keeps his own eyes peeled for the station.
Admittedly, he will be grateful for the rest the train ride will provide. Though, it will also give him more time to think about what the doctors might say. As much as he wants to reassure Nagisa, his mind is just as prone to jump to extreme scenarios. He just doesn't let them keep him from doing what needs to be done.]
no subject
[Nagisa's been trying not to think about it, himself. Ignoring the problem obviously hasn't helped him this week, but he intends to continue to ignore it as much as he can get away with, now that he's actually agreed to have it checked out.]

no subject
The thought of that causes an uncomfortable pit to form in Nagisa's stomach as the train rolls along, his attention centered up at the clouds out the window. His foot isn't hurting as badly now since he'd been keeping off of it, but he knows without looking how bad it looks beneath those bandages.
If he's being completely honest with himself, he really doesn't know what to expect for the doctors to tell him.]
no subject
Without warning, he reaches over to lightly flick his forehead.]
Don't overthink it. No matter what happens, you have plenty of people to help you work through it. It's going to be all right.
[And this Rin can say without doubt.]
no subject
[Nagisa pouts, looking over at Rin with his cheeks puffed out. He's right there, and that fact isn't something Nagisa will argue against. He's grateful for all of the friends he has. Nagisa isn't sure how he would be able to make it through things like this without them.
He lifts his arm to rub the heel of his hand against his forehead, huffing even as a small smile creeps back onto his face.]
Might have to ask the doctor if I've got a permanent dent in my forehead, too.
no subject
I'm not paying for any medical bills.
no subject
[Nagisa sighs deeply, falling back against his seat.]
no subject
[Rin laughs and turns back to the route map.]
no subject
But once the train got to their stop he looked out the window again, breathing a sigh.]
Better get this over with.
no subject
We'll pick up lunch after this. [He murmurs to Nagisa just to keep his mind off other things, as he walks the rest of the way from the station to the town hospital.
It's nothing fancy, but it's well suited for a small population and has the essential specialists, as well as a waiting room stocked with a variety of popular magazines and a small television set playing some baseball game. He grabs a clipboard for Nagisa to fill-out and helps him into a chair before picking up a magazine to flip through. Rin has no real interest in the contents, other than to have something new to converse with Nagisa about while he fills in the information and waits to be seen.]
