The HOLY GRAIL WAR Meme

Seven Masters, magi of the present day. Seven Servants, heroes of days past.
One Holy Grail, granting whomever claims it a wish. Only one team of Master and Servant may claim it.
Who will it be?
For those unfamiliar with Fate/Stay Night or Fate/Zero, you can find a better explanation of the Holy Grail War here. (Note: The Holy Grail War in Fate/EXTRA functions in a dramatically different way, and one not followed for purposes of this meme.)


Instructions
1. Comment with your character. In the subject line, put that character's name, canon, and which role (Master, Servant, or either) you would like them to fulfill. Add other preferences if you would like. (NOTE: If your character can fill the role of Servant, I suggest you state which class(es) -- Saber, Lancer, Archer, Rider, Caster, Assassin, or Berserker -- they fall into.)
2. Reply to others' comments. Pick your character's role (and the other character's if they list "Either" as their preference), then use the RNG to pick a scenario that fits the two characters' roles.
3. Enjoy! Though there might be triggers, depending on how the prompts are interpreted.


TWO MASTERS


1. Battle. Who says that Servants get to have all the fun? After all, most Masters try to kill each other, too. Whatever the circumstances, the two of you are locked in a fight. Neither of you are willing to use your Command Spells just yet, so no Servants here. Just two magi duking it out.

2. Alliance. There's a bigger threat out there. Either one Servant is exceptionally powerful, or the situation has changed and the participants need to take action aginst it. One way or another, you're teamed up with one of your rivals for the Holy Grail. How long will this last before you try to stab each other in the back? Or, will something more develop?

3. Protection. Uh-oh! One of you has lost your Servant! Unfortunately, there's no way you'd get to the church safely on your own, so the other one will help you get there! Or maybe you don't trust the priest presiding over the Holy Grail War and are giving shelter to them yourself? Given their track record, no one would blame you.

4. Death. One or both of you lay dying. It might have been by the other's hand, or by someone else's entirely. How will you spend your last moments in the presence of one of your rivals?

5. You, Too? Surprise! You may have been friends before, but you've just discovered that you're both Masters! How will you handle this revelation?

6. Wild Card. Roll again, pick one of the previous options, or make one up!


MASTER AND SERVANT


1. Are You My Master? The summoning is complete. Whether intentional or not, catalyst or not, a magus has summoned a Servant. What kind of meeting was it? Was everything totally under control, or did a hitch occur? Or maybe it happened in the middle of a life-or-death situation!

2. Identity. Either the Servant has flat out told the Master their identity, or they unleashed their Noble Phantasm. Either way, the cat is out of the bag. How will the Master react, now that they know their Servant's name and legend? Will anything change between the two?

3. Battle Aftermath. A battle has just ended. Who participated? Are either of you hurt? Did the Master have to use a Command Spell? Any number of things could have happened here.

4. Discord. Uh-oh. It looks like the Master and the Servant don't get along. Here come the arguments! Don't do something stupid, like waste a Command Spell over a triviality...

5. Love. And then, there's the opposite. Sometimes Masters and Servants fall in love with each other. How will this affect things?

6. Wild Card. Roll again, pick one of the previous options, or make one up!


TWO SERVANTS


1. Battle. This is what usually happens when two Servants meet -- they duke it out. This probably says enough as it is.

2. Alliance. There's a bigger threat out there. Either one Servant is exceptionally powerful, or the situation has changed and the participants need to take action aginst it. One way or another, you're teamed up with one of your rivals for the Holy Grail. How long will this last before you try to stab each other in the back? Or, will something more develop?

3. The Grail Dialogues. Maybe you're not interested in fighting just yet. Maybe you just want to sit down and talk with the other Servant. Find out what they want, what makes them tick. Get some wine while you're at it -- nothing like good wine to go with good talk!

4. Death. One or both of you lay dying...again. It might have been by the other's hand, or by someone else's entirely. How will you spend your last moments in this War in the presence of one of your rivals?

5. Identity. Congratulations, you've just learned each other's identities! Will this change the situation, or will you press onward?

6. Wild Card. Roll again, pick one of the previous options, or make one up!

[Different worlds. Right. He'd heard about the Holy Grail War - he'd done enough to qualify as a Servant a few times over. His memories of the places he'd been are still there, but he shoves them aside. Standing tall in the magic circle, surrounded by light, the young man shouldered his spear.]

Are you my master?

[Right, right. They've got to say the words to finalize the contract. Hopefully this wouldn't be too bad... though it probably would be, from the way Waver and Diarmuid talked about it.]

[The summoning ritual had gone as expected, and now standing before Tobias is his Servant. He doesn't answer right away, instead just nodding slowly as he sizes him up. He's unsure what to think of his Servant that he has summoned upon first glance...but if Tobias has learned anything, it's not to judge a book by its cover.]

I am your master.

Good. Then the contract's complete. I'm Lancer.

[He holds out a hand to shake. Might as well be friendly, right? And if there's anything he's learned it's better to build bridges when you can help it.]

[Caster's personal abilities laid much more with pure magical damage then most of his class- but even so he had all the general skills still available to him. Sensing magical pulses and the like came with that. So it wasn't too hard to find this Master's hiding spot when they started doing rituals to power their Servant.

He pondered sending in a Familiar, but his jagged graffiti-ed familiars tended to attack people more then spy, so he decided to investigate himself. Being a Caster he could handle himself with his own Prana without much worry about his own Master not being nearby]

[Considering starting the hostilities early, are we? Suffice it to say it's a wise decision on Neku's part to decide to hold off on sending in a Familiar, particularly considering whom he might be provoking here. However, it's hard to really tell if this particular Servant would have been surprised or amused by the spectacle. The lazy smile on his face says that he's relaxed to some degree, but the way his stance settles and he throws his head a bit to get the hair out of his eyes says that he might be too relaxed, perhaps.

His mouth works quietly as he speaks with his Master, standing back on his heels with arms folded across his chest. It's like he just carries himself with a sense of knowing, and whoever his Master happens to be is either very lucky, or has cause to be cautious in that regard. Still, he is an Archer, after all. It's hard to tell what's on his mind at any given time...

He looks up suddenly with his Master mid-sentence, cutting him off with an upraised hand. His small grin widens slightly as he says something else too quiet to be heard before stepping off on his own, holding his other hand out to his side. There's a dull glow that brightens into white-blue around his palm, dissipating to reveal a gun that he slowly curls his fingers around.]

Seems like I have company...

[Josh grins, loud enough for whoever is watching to be able to hear him.]

Now the question remains...are you going to come out, or am I going to have to come looking for you?

[Like hell he's coming out when Archer has his Master there as support. But he wants to get some idea of who he's fighting. So instead he increases his magical presence just a bit, and flees.

But makes himself easy enough to track for now. The other should get the invitation easy enough.]

[Open to either role. As a Caster his versatility is high, but god that Luck stat oh god. That's Lancer level shit.

As a Master he isn't a Mage, BUT comes from a lost mage bloodline, and has a very abnormally high prana cap. So any Servant that gets him will have no issue having all the fuel they need]

[The summoning ritual was complete. Atawhai wasn't the finest mage you could find (a fair bit stronger and more focused than his brother, but without quite as much capability to keep going as long as he could, as far as being a good vessel for providing mana goes) but he knew enough to get the job completed.

He took a heavy step back, breaths coming deep and slow. Atawhai knew what to expect, he did...but he still wasn't sure if he was prepared for what he was going to summon.]

[The sigil glows brilliantly before flashing, bringing with it the sound of an explosion. The deafening blast continues, changing pitch, growing deeper, until the room shudders with the clear, resounding roar of a massive tiger.

Or...more specifically, a massive weretiger. One who is all too familiar.]

(It's no surprise to anyone that Rider has been on the move since day one. He's one to prefer mobility, so it was common to bump into him. He kept to himself and his own agenda, but this time, he approached Saber directly.)

...Saber.

[Rongo takes no time in sizing up his most mobile of opponents, and silently unsheathes his claws.]

[As a Master, he actually makes for a pretty good battery — and he's not at all averse to finding additional sources of suffering magic to help supplement his servant's ability to function.

As a Servant, his legend is likely to portray him as a trickster figure with themes vaguely akin to the serpent in the garden of Eden — a lot of temptation and rebellion against figures of authority, possibly with motifs of fire to match.

Class-wise, he's either the most fucking cheatery Caster ever because one of his Noble Phantasms is his actual fucking gun, or you could instead summon him as an Archer for his use of projectile weapons.]

[Most of the Servants were summoned in churches and castles and hidden mage hide-aways.

The Servant Neku was trying for was in... an attic.

Not that Neku knew most of his future foes were preparing in places of security and with plans and weapons already in place. With long family lines all built around finding the Root. He just knew he had a book one of his grandparents wrote all their anti-Mage's Association ramblings in over 60 years ago, and all the info they knew about the Grail War. Something they had planned on joining but something happened which instead lead to them abandoning Magecraft all together- so much so their grandchild lived a completely normal life.

That and a wish.

He kept glancing back at the book as he made the circle with spray paint, the loops and circles each done with extreme care, using all his artistic talent. So far from the blood circles and handed down spell circles of others. Once it was done he placed the relic in the center- something else hidden but unused 60 years before- and closed the circle with the self inflected gash on his palm.

Of course one of the things to summon Schuldig was the blood of a ginger. Duh

Neku doesn't expect it to work. At all. But he has the hidden wells of prana and will to make it work.]

[It's a thing of beauty, really, when a successful summon is completed — not just in a figurative sense, but in a simple aesthetic one as well: the circle comes alight with fire and glow, the lines flaring red then white as energy begins to course and — well, and the magic happens.

(Somewhere in the deepest pits of the abyss, a ginger devil felt a strange and incessant tugging in the vicinity of his chest; responsibly, he took the initiative to go to the time clock, punch out his card, and alert his immediate superior to this new and unanticipated development: "Sorry, guys, I gotta bail, looks like I'm being demon-summoned.")

When Neku's eyes finally clear from the near-blinding light of the magic he's just invoked, he'll find indeed that there is a ginger standing in the midst of that circle, arms folded across his chest and one hip cocked out in a lazy stance; he's blinking himself, like he's unused to seeing the light of day, and his first order of business is to survey the attic with a slow sweep of his head in the universal unspoken sign for, "Can you believe this dump?"

A moment later, his very blue eyes locked onto the boy standing outside the circle, noting in particular the gash on his palm.]

And who the fuck are you?
