Not what you bargained for

[It had been three months since the Chosen had been first brought to the Digital World...or something like it, anyway. Three months was hardly enough time to really give anyone brought to this place much of a chance to take it all in, but some people adjusted more quickly than others. Of course those not of the human variety had a bit of a challenge on their hands, but it was safe to say that people were getting settled in now, for the most part.
Hiccup found this place to be...well, not quite so bad as he first thought it would. Very strange and new, but he had really become enthralled with the technology that surrounded this world after some time had passed. He almost always had his hands working, trying to take things apart when he could to study them, fascinated with just how this stuff worked. He still could barely process electricity. Even Gomamon's somewhat annoying presence hadn't been enough to dampen his enthusiasm, and this went on for the next two months.
Until just recently, that is.
Hiccup had gotten colds before, so sure, waking up one morning feeling a bit under the weather wasn't unusual. ...But after three days of it, the fourth day seemed to really do the kid in. He slept way past noon, and Gomamon's crawling all over his chest and stomach wasn't even enough to get him to get up. He just felt so...tired. Everything ached, his leg especially. Ever since he got sick, a day hadn't gone by that it hadn't been throbbing, feeling like it was just going to fall off at any moment.
Heck, he almost wished it just would.
But that had been a whole week ago. ...It was bordering on two, and Hiccup hadn't been able to rouse himself at all for the past two days. The only time he did get up was to use the bathroom, but beyond that he just couldn't move. Not that he could figure out what was wrong with him either, but at this point he was too weak to care. The viking barely even noticed Gomamon's excitable demeanor diminishing over time, to the point where he had genuinely become worried for his partner.
Desperate and secretly afraid, Gomamon had called Shepard early that morning. Now he sat on the edge of Hiccup's bed where he slept fitfully, waiting with his claws nervously kneading the covers.
...She'd know what to do. ..Right?]
